This year we have started our reforestation efforts a bit earlier so we can plant more and the plants can enjoy the winter rains.
- 18 new trees in this three-layer windbreak in Reforestation field. These include: Atlas Cedar, Quince, Persimmon, Mediterranean Cypress, Catalpa, Hazels, Willows, Cherry, Pear, Mulberry, Oaks
- We have also planted many more trees within our food forests and restoration agriculture fields, update to come soon
- Last years reforestation survival rate was low due to a year of drought. We have decided that this year we will irrigate the trees for a maximum survival rate
- We currently have dedicated a 1 hectare field for the reforestation plan
- We planned to plant another field this winter but due to some trees not surviving the drought and the fire risk from uncut grass, we will focus efforts in this field
- We still plan to plant some trees in other fields, but with fencing around each
- This will allow sheep to graze there to keep the grass low and fire safe without risking the tree being eaten
- This will take much more time to plant as we need to put three fence posts and a fence around each one.
- This will incur more costs as we need more fence posts and fencing but these can be reused once the tree no longer requires the fence
- This method could infact icrease the area we reforest faster as we can spread trees out further and less dense.
- This years planting has been funded by donations from guests that were here and the food forest course
- We still have some funding from donations made this year from some of you, we will be purchasing and planting these trees in January 2020 as we are finalising the designs
- Designs will be published soon
